2017 AUKMIN future cooperation
- Australia and the UK will hold a Leadership Forum in 2018, bringing together business, government, academia and civil society leaders to strengthen the bilateral relationship and commemorate the 100th anniversary of the opening of Australia House in London.
- Australia and the UK will work together to support the renewal of the Commonwealth, including through an innovation partnership. DFAT's InnovationXchange will invite teams from across the Commonwealth to tackle development challenges facing Commonwealth nations.
- Australia and the UK will co-chair an international workshop on human trafficking and modern slavery in support of our shared commitment to tackling this scourge. The workshop will be held in London and hosted at the Australian High Commission. It will help countries prepare for UN consultations on the Global Compact on Migration.
- Australia and the UK will strengthen the 1.5 Track Asia Dialogue to generate creative policy recommendations, and hold a public event to raise the profile of the dialogue.
- AUKMIN ministers welcomed a joint commitment to promote an international stability framework for cyberspace, building on recent discussions between PM Turnbull and PM May. This framework will drive closer co-operation to deter, mitigate and attribute malicious cyber attacks; promote the application of existing international law to cyberspace; and further our close work on cyber security capacity-building.
- Australia and the UK will work together to find opportunities to conduct cooperative activities in the region whenever we have military assets in the same area at the same time.
- Australia and the UK will strengthen our defence and security arrangements on classified information sharing, and harmonising our military capability and equipment cooperation.
- Australia and the UK will exchange information on the coordination of the military's involvement in domestic counter-terrorism operations and post-attack rehabilitation.
- Given the reform of our respective shipbuilding industries, Australia and the UK will share information on shipbuilding strategies.
- Under the Australia-United Kingdom Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperative Defence Science and Technology, we will explore opportunities for collaborative initiatives in support of our respective innovation strategies, reflecting both countries' recent investments in this area.
- Recognising that people are our most important resource, we will deepen our sharing of best practice strategies on the management and engagement of our civilian and military personnel to maintain our capability edge.
