Australian Statement

Thank you Chair.

Australia is committed to responding to the unprecedented challenge posed by increasing global displacement. We affirm our continued support of UNHCR and its mandate – to protect refugees and other people of concern, and assist in finding durable solutions to their displacement. We reiterate the importance of working together to address global displacement, in line with the Global Compact on Refugees.

Australia would like to highlight the fundamental importance of the safety and security of humanitarian workers, as outlined in OP28. Australia is committed to the protection of civilians, humanitarian and healthcare workers, and to preserving the humanitarian space in situations of conflict. We are a strong proponent of international humanitarian law and committed to supporting greater awareness and implementation of the rules of international humanitarian law.
