Statement by Australia

Thank you, [President/Vice President]

Australia commends Canada for its commitment to gender equality and the Women, Peace and Security agenda, supporting the rights of LGBTQIA+ persons, and shaping, protecting and promoting human rights domestically and internationally.

Australia welcomes Canada’s introduction of its Federal 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan to advance the human rights of these communities, National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence and United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act Action Plan.  

Australia recommends Canada:

1. Continue work to ensure full implementation of the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence.
2. Implement measures addressing the 94 “Calls to Action” from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
3. Continue work to ensure access to clean drinking water in First Nations communities.
