Statement by Australia

Thank you, President

Australia acknowledges Monaco’s engagement with Human Rights Council mechanisms, including its standing invitation to Special Procedure Mandate Holders and ratification of the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities since its last review.  

Australia recommends Monaco:

1. Accede to the First Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
2. Introduce legislation to expressly prohibit all forms of discrimination, including discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
3. Strengthen the role of Monaco’s Office of the High Commissioner for the Protection of Rights, Liberties and for Mediation, to ensure its compliance with the Paris Principles, and seek accreditation by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions.
