Universal Periodic Review of Luxembourg
4 May 2023
Statement by Australia
Thank you, [President/Vice President]
Australia acknowledges Luxembourg’s strong human rights record, in particular its demonstrated commitment to gender equality. We note Luxembourg has the lowest gender pay gap in the European Union.
Australia also acknowledges Luxembourg’s protection of LGBTI rights, including legal reforms that allow for gender recognition on the basis of self-identification. We welcome Luxembourg’s increased awareness-raising campaigns focused on gender-based violence, the rights of children and victims of trafficking.
Australia recommends Luxembourg:
- Revise trafficking laws to include force, fraud and coercion as core elements of the crime of trafficking in persons.
- Continue efforts to adopt, and fully implement, a national strategy to tackle Anti-Semitism.
- Strengthen collection of data practices to better identify instances of racial discrimination.
