Statement by Australia

Thank you, [President/Vice President]

Australia welcomes Romania's commitment to fulfil its human rights obligations and its introduction of an anti-corruption strategy. We commend Romania for the considerable support it has provided to people forced to leave Ukraine.

Australia recommends Romania:

1. Fully implement the Roma Inclusion Plan to combat prejudice and violence against Roma people, including allocation of necessary funding.
2. Provide systematic training for law enforcement to identify, investigate and prosecute hate crimes, to enhance cooperation between police and people in marginalised situations, especially Roma and LGBTI communities.
3. Operationalise and fund National Plans in the field of HIV/AIDS and sexual and reproductive health and rights, including enhanced access to testing and prevention for key populations, and implement education programs in schools.
