Key engagement

Bilateral engagement. Strong people-to-people links.

Bilateral relations

Australia has a constructive bilateral relationship with Armenia. Diplomatic relations were established in 1992. Australia's Ambassador to Russia is accredited to Armenia, while in 2022 Armenia accredited an Ambassador to Australia (based in Japan).

The bilateral relationship is underpinned by strong people-to-people links. Parliaments in both countries maintain Armenia-Australia parliamentary friendship groups. The Armenian community in Australia engages parliamentarians at the federal and state levels.

Australia recognises the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia, and supports the ongoing efforts of the governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan towards a just and lasting peace.

Australia provided $500,000 of humanitarian assistance to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to help more than 100,000 Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians now living in Armenia.

Economic and trade information can be found in the Armenia fact sheet [PDF].
