Bilateral relations
Australian consular representation in Ecuador was established in 1968 with formal diplomatic relations commencing in 1975.
Australia's Ambassador in Santiago de Chile holds non-resident accreditation to Ecuador. Australia has an Honorary Consul in Guayaquil. Ecuador has an Embassy in Canberra and Honorary Consuls in Melbourne and Adelaide.
Australia and Ecuador cooperate on a range of issues of mutual interest, with key areas including mining, environment and oceans protection.
Australia and Ecuador engage multilaterally in numerous forums, including the United Nations, International Monetary Fund (IMF), International Maritime Organization (IMO), World Bank, World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR).
The Australian Embassy in Santiago de Chile manages a Direct Aid Program in Ecuador.
