Bilateral relations

Australia and Nicaragua established diplomatic relations in 1987. Australia's Ambassador in Mexico City holds non-resident accreditation to Nicaragua.

Nicaragua's Ambassador in Seoul holds non-resident accreditation to Australia. Nicaragua has an Honorary Consul in Brisbane.

Australia and Nicaragua are members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and United Nations (UN). Both participate in the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC).

Nicaragua is a member of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), Community of Latin American and Caribbean Sates (CELAC), Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), Central American Integration System (SICA), and other regional organisations.

The Australian Embassy in Mexico manages a Direct Aid Program for Nicaragua.
