Bilateral relations

Australia and Suriname established diplomatic relations in 1994. Australia’s High Commissioner in Port of Spain has non-resident accreditation to Suriname.

Suriname does not have official representation in Australia. Suriname’s Ambassador in Jakarta holds non-resident accreditation for Australia.

Australia and Suriname are members of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and United Nations (UN).

Suriname is a member of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), Organization of American States (OAS), Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Africa, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States, and the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) grouping.

The Australian High Commission in Port of Spain manages a Direct Aid program in Suriname.
