The 2019-20 Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Budget
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) will receive an appropriation of $5.2 billion for the 2019-20 financial year, including $3.7 billion in administered funding, and $1.5 billion in departmental funding.
The department is implementing the Pacific step-up initiatives announced in late 2018. The $2.0 billion Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific will be operational by 1 July 2019 and will accelerate the delivery of quality infrastructure which is prioritised by our Pacific partners and avoids unsustainable debt burdens. The department will receive an additional $12.7 million to manage the Facility.
The 2019-20 Official Development Assistance Budget
The Australian Government will provide an estimated $4.0 billion in total Official Development Assistance (ODA) in 2019-20. Australia is approximately the 12th highest donor amongst the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
Reinforcing the Government's commitment to step-up our engagement in the Pacific, Australia will make its highest-ever contribution to Pacific development in 2019-20 with an estimated $1.4 billion in ODA. This represents over a third of our total aid budget and reaffirms Australia's position as the largest aid donor to the Pacific.
In 2019-20, the Government will make available a record $450 million in humanitarian assistance, ensuring Australia can respond rapidly to humanitarian crises in the Indo-Pacific and help address the needs of over 68.5 million refugees and displaced people.
