Updated: Vanuatu Health Program

Australia has a well-established presence in Vanuatu's health sector. As the largest donor in the sector, Australia has provided approximately AUD5 million annually in bilateral support.

With current health investments due to end during 2019, DFAT has undertaken the design of a new health program. The Vanuatu Health Program will focus on the delivery of equitable, accessible and quality essential health services, and supporting the Vanuatu Ministry of Health to lead continuous improvement and strengthened accountability in the sector. The program will aim to achieve this by providing targeted support for corporate services, public health priorities, provincial health services and workforce development. Subject to design completion and delegate approval, proposed funding for the Vanuatu Health Program will be around AUD5 million per year.

The RFT is anticipated to call for submissions for a managing contractor to coordinate implementation of the program, including provision of technical assistance and delivery of program activities, with an estimated budget of AUD8 million over the initial period of three (3) years with the option for up to a further seven (7) years. Once approved, the RFT will be published on the AusTender website, anticipated for late March 2019.
