Project Description

In 2019, the Castlemaine State Festival will present a program focus on Korea to celebrate Korean arts and culture and facilitate opportunities for intercultural collaboration and conversation through the arts. Acclaimed violinist Ye-Eun Choi will feature in the music program, performing an exquisite program of challenging solo and duo pieces by Bach, Bartok, Mozart, Brahms and Respighi. The contemporary performance program will showcase Ambiguous Dance Company with their spectacular work 'Body Concert'. Body Concert is an energetic and highly demanding piece that has been celebrated as 'a masterpiece with the potential to set in motion a Korean Wave in contemporary dance' (Kang Il-Jung, Yonhap News, Korea). Visual artist Jazoo Yang will be in residence at CSF/LAI to create a site-specific large-scale work for the CSF 2019 visual arts program that explores domesticity and place. The artist will draw on these concepts in a creative, intercultural conversation to gain insights into Australian and Korean perspectives on housing and gathering places. Korean writers and thinkers will feature in the literature program and engage in a broader intercultural dialogue about sustainability and the future of living.
