Project summary
Description
In 2016, Black Arm Band will deliver an international program in New Zealand and Brazil between February and May comprising high profile presentation engagements with complementary cultural exchange activities in each destination. The overall program consists of:
New Zealand – New Zealand Festival (February 2016)
- A performance of 'dirtsong' in the New Zealand Festival opening weekend of the festival (26–28 February)
- A performance of 'dirtsong' and creative cultural exchange activities in Porirua, with Maori and Pacific Island residents
- Q&A session with Black Arm Band artists following the performance in each location
Brazil – Focus Country Program (May 2016)
- 3 to 4 performances of 'dirtsong' in Sao Paulo within the focus country program
- 1 to 2 Performances of 'dirtsong' in Manous in the Amazon within the Focus Country program and creative cultural exchange activities with local Indigenous artists
- 1 - 2 Performances of 'dirtsong' within the focus country program in either Brasilia or Belo Horizonte
- Q&A session with Black Arm Band artists following the performance in each location
The program provides the opportunity for Black Arm Band to present a sophisticated large-scale music theatre production from Australia celebrating exceptional contemporary Australian Indigenous music from all corners of the country to new audiences in New Zealand and Brazil. The pacific region and South America are two new markets for Black Arm Band, which the company seeks to "break" through the development of new relationships and initial touring and cultural exchange activities.
