Media are invited
to Breakfast with Alexander Downer, Minister for Foreign Affairs

The Minister will
outline the latest trends in Australia's overseas aid program, how aid is improving
the lives of many millions of poor people, and launch the new AusAID web site
through which businesses can obtain tender documents and read about major future
contracts.

Followed by a seminar
on:

How Australian companies
and business and professional women can access the $600 million contracted annually
through AusAID.

The Access AusAID
seminar will:

  • Help businesses
    to understand AusAID's competitive contract process
  • Help businesses
    identify consultancy opportunities and prepare competitive tenders
  • Explain the emphasis
    AusAID places on the role professional women can play in the delivery of Australia's
    overseas aid program

In 1998/99 AusAID
issued more than 800 contracts worth around $ 615 million to Australian businesses,
and managed contracts worth almost $2 billion.
