Summary of publication

The independent review of the Papua New Guinea (PNG) - Australia Governance Partnership by the Quality and Technical Assurance Group focussed on assessing the overall effectiveness of the partnerships in 2018, following a challenging implementation phase in 2016-17.

The review found that the Partnership was a complex design and that it was not surprising that its implementation stretched the organisational capacity and capability of the Australian High Commission, the managing contractor and the Government of PNG.

A range of recommendations were made in relation to Australia's support for the partnerships. DFAT's management response accepted or partially accepted all but one of the recommendations.
