Summary of publication

This is a World Bank design document that describes the context and rationale behind the Mekong Delta Transport Infrastructure Development project. The development objectives of the project are:

1. reduce transport costs and facilitate trade by improving the main inland waterways and road corridors in the Mekong Delta region
2. improve rural mobility of goods and people by providing year round basic access to communes and the main supply corridors, and
3. strengthen the effectiveness of transport institutions to plan and manage multi-modal transport infrastructure and logistics.
