Project description

As Australian and Gulf region Fintech entities seek to utilise new technologies to develop innovative financial services and offer them on international markets, they commonly struggle with understanding the complex labyrinth of laws that govern transactions. Products and services offered by Fintech entities are not governed by any single area of law. Rather they are governed by a nexus of banking, contract, tort and international law, resulting in a lack of understanding of applicable laws and impeding Fintech investment. Guided by advice from the Qatar Fintech Hub, Hatch Quarter and the Australian Macquarie Incubator, the project team will: (a) present Seminars on 'Fintech Investment and Regulation in Australia and the Gulf Region' at Dubai Expo 2020; (b) develop digital resources to guide Fintech innovators, investors and clients; and (c) enhance cultural relations between Australia and the Arab world, specifically in the context of Fintech in the Islamic finance space.
