Dear Minister Goyal

I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 2 April 2022, which reads as follows:

“In connection with the signing of the India-Australia Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (“the Agreement”), I have the honour to confirm the following understandings shared by the Government of Australia and the Government of India (“the Parties”):

  1. The Parties shall consider issues relating to market access, including maturation rules for whisky and other alcoholic beverages.
  2. For this purpose, the Parties shall establish a Working Group which will examine these issues. The Working Group shall meet within 6 months of the date of entry into force of the Agreement. Both Parties shall regularly review the progress of the Working Group through the Subcommittee on Trade in Goods.

I have the honour to propose that this letter and your letter in reply confirming that your Government shares these understandings, which will come into effect on the date on which the Agreement enters into force, shall constitute an integral part of the Agreement.”

I have the further honour to confirm that my Government shares these understandings, which shall constitute an integral part of the Agreement.

Yours sincerely
