Meet our 2017 grantees
Project summary
Sector: Security and International Relations / Geopolitics
Country location: Australia
Grantee: Australian National University
Project Description
The Korean Peninsula is more unstable than at any time since the Korean War. The outbreak of hostilities here would be catastrophic. This project seeks to improve Australian awareness of Korean Peninsula security developments and Korean awareness of what Australia might potentially contribute to the prevention of conflict. Two one-day workshops (one academic, one policy-focused) will be held in Brisbane and Canberra. A public event will occur in Brisbane in partnership with the Australian Institute of International Affairs. Government meetings will occur in Canberra. Hankuk University will fund attendance of 6-7 (mostly mid-career) Korean Peninsula security specialists at these events. AKF funds will be used to facilitate participation of two high profile scholars of Korean Peninsula security and two Australian female early-to-mid career experts. Overall, the project seeks to promote Korean-Australian collaboration on Korean Peninsula security issues and the building of joint policy-relevant expertise between experts in Australia and Korea.
