Project Summary
- Sector: Arts and Culture
- Country location: Australia
- Grantee: Adelaide Film Festival
Project description
Adelaide Film Festival (ADL Film Fest) will showcase a selection of recent films from the Arab world made by women. The program will include premiere screenings of Nadine Labaki's 'CARPHARNAUM' (Lebanon), Meryem Benm'Barek-Aloisi's 'SOFIA' (Morocco) and a documentary from Jordan by Widad Shafakoj called '17'. The program will be complemented by a public forum, the Cinematic World of Arab Women: Past + Present. From the early days of cinema to the flourishing film industries of today, Arab women have shaped Arab screen culture as directors, writers, actors and producers, featuring luminously as subjects and objects of our collective gaze. In collaboration with Arab Film Festival Australia, ADL Film Fest is proud to present a panel discussion exploring the past and contemporary cinematic world of Arab women. International festival guests will join Arab Film Festival Australia Committee members Dr. Mehal Krayem and Dr. Paula Abood for this special event. The ADL Film Fest program will launch on 12 September 2018, with the festival taking place in Adelaide from 10 - 21 October 2018.
