New Colombo Plan

Interview with 2015 NCP Scholar Asher Taccori

The New Colombo Plan is supporting University of Wollongong Nutrition and Dietetics student Asher Taccori to intern with the United Nations World Food Programme regional bureau in Thailand. A short video interview with Asher is now on the NCP YouTube playlist:

A transcript of the interview is below:

What's the best thing about living and working in Thailand?

Well for me this is the first time I have lived somewhere with an Asian culture and specifically the Thai culture has been very interesting for me.

I've been learning a little bit of the language as well since I've been here and just interacting with the people and enjoying the food. Having a position where I go to work 9-to-5 and… living in a city has been really fantastic for me.

How will this experience as a New Colombo Plan scholar help you achieve your future goals?

I am studying a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics so I am in the field of nutrition, health and public health. So… having an internship with the World Food Programme is incredibly relevant.

I've always wanted to work in an international context, working around malnutrition and things related to working in developing countries. So for me it's a perfect sort of gateway into that sort of area and it has been perfect for me: to be here learning from very experienced people in the field, and building connections for when I graduate.
