New Colombo Plan

Mitsui and QUT’s New Colombo Plan partnership

Mitsui & Co. (Australia) and Queensland University of Technology (QUT) are providing new opportunities for undergraduates to intern in the Indo-Pacific under the Australian Government's New Colombo Plan.

Under the partnership New Colombo Plan mobility students from QUT will travel to Japan this month to undertake an immersive two-week internship program at Mitsui's Tokyo headquarters and visit multinational companies including Toyota, Fujitsu and Kimitsu Steel Mill.

Students were farewelled last week by Mitsui & Co. (Australia) Director and Executive Vice-President Ms Wendy Holdenson and Consul-General of Japan, Brisbane, Mr Hidehiro Hosaka.

Ms Holdenson said Mitsui's partnership with QUT demonstrated the organisation's longstanding commitment to student mobility and to supporting graduates to gain cultural awareness and experience across different environments. She wished the students well as they embarked on their experience in Japan.

In the first three years of the New Colombo Plan, Mitsui has supported internships for 40 NCP mobility students and scholarship recipients. In her role as an inaugural New Colombo Plan Business Champion Ms Holdenson has been active in promoting and supporting the program.

Mitsui is joined by more than 200 organisations from Australia and across the region now registered on the New Colombo Plan Internship and Mentorship Network to promote workplace opportunities available to NCP students.
