New Colombo Plan

New Chinese connections for Victorian students

Nine Victorian students recently completed a cultural immersion program at Shenzhen Polytechnic in China under a New Colombo Plan mobility grant.

The international studies students from Federation University travelled to Shenzhen, a major city in Guangdong Province, to test their cross-cultural communications skills and gain first-hand, practical experience negotiating life in China.

From the first day students were plunged into Chinese society, making friends with Chinese university students their own age and staying with local families. Students formed close bonds with their new Chinese friends, sharing meals and exploring the city together.

The students have now returned to Australia inspired to remain connected to their friends in China; and many are looking for fresh opportunities to return.
