Uramat Mugas (Uramat story songs) is a cross-cultural art project which advances a significant partnership between the Indigenous Uramat Identity Group of East New Britain, Papua New Guinea and the Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA), Brisbane. Developed for ‘The 10th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art’ (APT10) with the assistance of the Queensland University of Technology, Uramat Mugas will deliver an immersive AV installation that celebrates the spectacular bark cloth masks gifted from the Uramat clan, through an innovative recontextualization of the stories and songs of their dynamic fire ceremonies. The project and associated APT10 Kids drawing exchange will extend Australian and Papua New Guinean innovation and creative excellence through multigenerational collaboration between industry specialists, leading artists, youth and communities - enabling community capacity building.
