Celebrating International Women’s Day

A group of leading female journalists from the Korean Women Journalist Association celebrated International Women's Day (IWD) in Australia this year as part of an international media visit (IMV).

The visit focused on policies and programs that support women's empowerment, particularly in the workforce. A meeting with the Workplace Gender Equality Agency fuelled discussion on why Australia still has a gender pay gap and the work the agency is doing to promote women's full economic participation.

In Melbourne, the journalists were exposed to Australia's creative fashion talent in action at a runway show during the Melbourne Fashion Festival where they met Australian Korean designer Yeojin Bae. A visit to the Royal Women's Hospital showcased Australia's world class medical infrastructure and innovative approaches to the treatment of women and newborns. The delegation also visited an early childhood education centre in Canberra, experiencing an Australian child care facility first hand and interviewing working parents about their experiences.

Along the way the journalists met with inspiring women and learned about innovative programs, highlighting the importance of sharing experiences to tackle gender equality.
