Australia and Mexico: capitalising on nearshoring, trade agreements and market conditions

Summary of publication

Recent global issues have led companies to review and shorten their supply chains in search for lower costs, lower risks, and greater agility and resilience, seeking to minimise exposure to risk factors that could affect their global value chain.

This report commissioned by the Council on Australia Latin America Relations, part of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, highlights Mexico's strategic advantages and the opportunities that arise from its location, policy approach and network of free trade agreements, including USMCA and CPTPP. For Australian businesses, Mexico can offer unique trade and investment advantages that can expand the opportunities for growth.
