Third JAEPA Joint Committee meeting – 13 February 2019

The third meeting of the Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement Joint Committee was held in Tokyo on 13 February 2019. The meeting was co-chaired by Ambassador for International Economic Affairs, Takehiro Kagawa, and HE Ambassador Richard Court AC, Australian Ambassador to Japan.

Sub-Committee on Financial Services – 11 October 2017

The Japan Australia Economic Partnership Agreement (JAEPA) Sub-Committee on Financial Services held its inaugural meeting in Tokyo, Japan on 11 October 2017.

Officials from the Australian Government and the Government of Japan welcomed the continued smooth implementation of JAEPA, and positive feedback from both business communities that they were taking advantage of commitments under the Agreement.

Both sides shared views on ways to enhance business opportunities and boost future growth in financial services under JAEPA.

Based on the mutual understanding that continued efforts are in progress among member countries of the Asia Region Funds Passport (ARFP), participants of the Sub-Committee from both Parties exchanged information and views on each country's experience in implementing ARFP.

Second JAEPA Joint Committee meeting – 19 April 2017

The second meeting of the Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement Joint Committee was held in Tokyo on 19 April 2017. The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Secretary Justin Brown and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Keiichi Katakami.

Sub-Committee on Promotion of a Closer Economic Relationship – 8 October 2015

The JAEPA Sub-Committee on Promotion of a Closer Economic Relationship held its first meeting in Tokyo on 8 October 2015. Senior officials from Australia and Japan met representatives of the business community from both countries to exchange views on further enhancing our strong economic relationship. The issues discussed included agriculture and food, infrastructure, education services and tourism. The participants also discussed ways to improve the business environment in both countries. The Sub-Committee agreed to meet again in 2016 and will report to the next meeting of the Joint Committee.



First JAEPA Joint Committee meeting – 15 January 2015

The first meeting of the Joint Committee established under the Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement (JAEPA) was held in Tokyo on 15 January 2015 to mark the entry into force of the Agreement. Australia was represented by Ambassador to Japan, Bruce Miller. Japan was represented by Minoru Kiuchi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs. Satoshi Oie, Parliamentary Vice Minister of Finance and Toshiko Abe, State Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries also attended.

The Joint Committee adopted the Agreement's Operational Procedures and Rules of Procedure of Arbitral Tribunals. The Parties' also exchanged information relating to contact points and government procurement thresholds.
