Heading to the United Kingdom has been a rite of passage for many Australians once they have finished school or further studies. The same is the case for many young people from the UK looking for an adventure Down Under.
The Australia-United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement (A-UKFTA) provides expanded pathways for young Australians to live and work in the UK, and vice versa, taking effect within the next five years.
Key Outcomes
From 31 January 2024, Australians up to 35 years of age (up from 30) will be able to apply for working holidays in the UK and stay for a maximum of 3 years (up from 2 years). Similarly, from 1 July 2023 UK citizens up to 35 years of age will be able to apply for a Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa, and from 1 July 2024, be granted up to three Working Holiday visas (not including any “COVID-19 affected visa”) without the requirement to undertake any ‘specified work'.
