Agrifood Globalisation and Asia

The Department of Foreign Affairs and
Trade Subsistence to Supermarket II Series

The transformation of Asia's traditional pattern of agricultural and
food production and distribution continues unabated - from one of predominantly
subsistence agriculture, into a rapidly modernising system of agribusiness,
agrifood processing and distribution. Neither the Asian crisis, nor the slowing
of economic growth in Japan and other parts of the region, has halted the
onward movement of this historic change.

The Subsistence to Supermarket II Series tracks the various elements
contributing to this transformation of Asia's agrifood systems, and analyses
Australia's participation and opportunities in the new Asian agrifood network.

Agrifood Multinational Corporations in Asia

Volume 1: Agrifood Multinational Corporations in Asia

A key driver of change in Asia's agrifood systems has been the
increasing participation in Asian markets of the leading agrifood multinational
corporations, primarily headquartered in North America and Western Europe,
and their incorporation of Asia into their global operations. Volume I focuses on the leading North American and Western European agrifood
multinational corporations.
