Groundwater Management in Southern Mongolia: Project design document

Summary of publication

This design document, prepared by the World Bank on behalf of the Government of Mongolia in February 2012, seeks funding to help establish a new institutional framework to strengthen the management of water resources in Mongolia, especially in relation to mining and downstream processing activities.

The Australian aid component of a World Bank-backed Mining Infrastructure Investment Support Project (MINIS) would focus on improving groundwater management through strengthening the capacity of authorities to manage groundwater resources, as well as the capacity of the Water Authority to support those local authorities, and to consolidate a database of information on groundwater.

The design document is divided into three sections: Analysis and Strategic Content, Program Description, and Implementation Arrangements.
