Description
This independent completion report reviews results and achievements of Kang Guru Indonesia (KGI) against agreed objectives for the period of 2005-2011. KGI assists Indonesians to improve skills in English communication and provides information about Australia to a broad Indonesian audience.
The completion report indicates that KGI is a unique program combining public affairs/diplomacy with English language training. Overall the report finds the KGI program is a well-regarded, targeted and effective program that has been able to demonstrate strong people to people linkages both within Indonesia and with stakeholders in the region at minimal cost. The use of appropriate technology also contributes to relevance in that students and teachers are able to interact and engage with KGI and improve their English.
The report highlights that magazine and newsletter remain the most popular form of communication for those without internet access and offers some practical recommendations for both a future public affairs/diplomacy program and a new KGI program (see Australia's Education Partnership with Indonesia Program).
