Overview
Strong economic growth since the 1970s has transformed the Malaysian economy. Tin, rubber and palm oil remain important, but have been overtaken by new industries. Malaysia is now one of the world's largest exporters of electronics and electrical products.
This report analyses the challenges to Malaysia's development trajectory and the government's plans - including in education - for new drivers of growth. There are new opportunities for Australian business and the Australia-Malaysia commercial relationship is set to expand further as Malaysia moves into the next stage of economic development.
