Summary of publication
This Report outlines program achievements and provides practical recommendations for future programming in school construction and post-disaster activities in Indonesia. It confirms that the School Reconstruction Program in West Java and West Sumatra achieved its objectives, including the reconstruction of 57 schools. The community based construction model was found to be appropriate. School reconstruction activities supported local economic recovery, injecting wages of $2.1 million into the community.
The review noted the partnership between AusAID and USAID added value to all three countries. It also recommends strengthening the process for school re/construction by the Government of Indonesia in partnership with donors like Australia, and for AusAID to improve branding and response to future disasters.
