Description

This revised Strategic Plan to Prevent and Control Non-Communicable Diseases in Tonga (2010–2015) focuses on strategies to give individuals the best informed choices to avoid health risk factors.

It also provides ways for the decision makers, to modify policies, which can create the right enabling environment that allows the individual, to make those right choices. At the same time, it encourages working with stakeholders at the community level, to ensure that healthy behaviours are endorsed and supported by community leaders.

This document also includes a comprehensive summary of the six components that form the Action Plan for 2010–2015. These are:

  • Component 1: Integrated NCD activities
  • Component 2: Physical activity
  • Component 3: Alcohol harm reduction
  • Component 4: Tobacco control
  • Component 5: Healthy eating
  • Component 6: Monitoring, evaluation and surveillance.
