Summary of publication

The results monitoring report, published in March 2011, outlines the results and accomplishments of the first annual work plan of the Beyond WTO Phase II Program. Key achievements for the program were:

1. The program supported a report on market economy related reforms that was used in Vietnam's negotiations on a free trade agreement with the European Union and helped in gaining market economy recognition from South Africa, Belarus and Japan.
2. A study looking at the impacts on the economy since WTO accession, submitted to the highest levels of Government, which included a chapter on the impacts of integration on agriculture and the rural economy with recommendations to ameliorate adverse impacts.
3. Workshops on integration issues have been attended by hundreds of representatives from business and business associations throughout the country (domestic and foreign businesses from all sectors).
