Nuclear Disarmament

Australia is committed to the goal of a world free of nuclear weapons.

Under Article VI of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), States Parties to the Treaty undertake to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament. The US –Russia New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (signed 8 April 2010) provides for substantial reductions in the numbers of deployed nuclear weapons and their delivery vehicles in a verifiable manner.
