Climate change
Climate Resilient Communities (CRC) supports implementation of the Australian Government’s climate change commitments under Australia’s International Development Policy, in line with partner government priorities.
CRC supports the DFAT to increase climate investments, drive climate integration, and better address climate change and disaster risk across Australia’s development portfolio.
CRC incentivises funding towards gender-responsive, inclusive climate and disaster resilience programming, particularly in the water, food, nature-based solutions, and energy sectors.
The initial investment is $208.5 million over five years from 2024-29.
CRC has six workstreams:
- Climate programming: Through Australia’s bilateral and regional programs, CRC funds climate resilience initiatives , particularly in the water, food, nature-based solutions, and energy sectors.
- Program cycle support: CRC supports DFAT program managers and implementing partners to design and manage CRC co-funded programs.
- Climate and disaster resilience technical assistance: CRC provides technical assistance to integrate climate and disaster resilience across the development program.
- Mobilising additional climate finance: CRC encourages funding from a range of sources. Innovative financing mechanisms are being explored to help mobilise additional climate finance.
- Learning: CRC facilitates the building and sharing of knowledge and learning on gender-responsive and inclusive climate and disaster action. This learning and knowledge informs programming and builds capacity to deliver climate programs.
- Communications and engagement: CRC provides a platform for climate-affected people and communities to share their experience at the national, regional and global levels
