Analysis released today by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
(DFAT) shows Australian exports of goods have risen an average seven per
cent per annum over the last 10 years.
A new DFAT report Exports of Primary and Manufactured Products, Australia,
2003, provides a comprehensive analysis of Australian produced merchandise
exports over the last 10 years, focusing on the level of processing of our
exports.
Despite a fall in 2003, exports of Australian-produced goods rose by an
average seven per cent per annum over the last 10 years to reach $100.1
billion in 2003. Exports of primary products rose by an average seven
per cent per annum to $60.2 billion, as did exports of manufactures to $28.2
billion.
Within the manufactures category, exports of simply transformed manufactures,
which consist of mainly basic metal manufactures, rose by seven per cent
per annum to $9.8 billion in 2003. Exports of elaborately transformed
manufactures, which include sophisticated products such as electronic components,
computer equipment, motor vehicles and parts and a variety of other machinery
and equipment, rose by six per cent per annum to $18.5 billion.
Exports of Primary and Manufactured Products (priced at $38.50) is part
of a series published each year by DFAT, providing comprehensive information
on Australia's international trade in goods and services. The Department
