Overview

Australia is committed to working in partnership with the Government of Samoa and local civil society organisations to advance human development and support all Samoans to have long, healthy and fulfilling lives. We approach this through programming that targets improved health, education, gender equality and social outcomes for all.

Tautua - Human Development for All

$40 million, 2021-29

Tautua provides institutional strengthening support to Government of Samoa and the community sector to improve the quality and inclusiveness of service delivery in relation to health, education, gender equality and disability. It focuses on four critical social issues: reducing non-communicable disease; reversing stagnated learning outcomes; reducing the vulnerability of those whose rights to exercise a choice and whose personal safety are threatened; and overcoming barriers to inclusive communities.

Samoa Gender Partnership Program

The Samoa Gender Partnership Program is designed to promote women’s economic empowerment and enhanced quality service delivery for sexual and reproductive health and rights and gender-based violence through strategic partnerships with civil society organisations.

Partnership with the World Bank’s Health System Strengthening Performance for Results (P4R) project

$6 million, 2022-25

The project aims to improve the quality and efficiency of non-communicable disease prevention and control in Samoa. Working in partnership with the World Bank and Government of New Zealand, the project focuses on strengthening primary health care through the improved systems of patient care from screening, diagnosis, referral and treatment including better health promotion.

Partnership with UN Women’s Markets for Change Program

$5.3 million, 2021-26

Markets for Change (M4C). led by UN Women, aims to ensure Samoan marketplaces in rural and urban areas are cleaner, greener and safer, with the principal focus of enhancing the economic empowerment of women market vendors.
