Project Description

The Australia-Colombia Policy Dialogue is an independent, non-partisan and non-exclusively academic, diplomatic initiative led by Charles Sturt University to gather experienced voices from Australia and Colombia to exchange views on the future of Australian-Colombian bilateral relations.

While being led by the Australian Graduate School of Policing and Security (AGSPS) at Charles Sturt University (CSU), the dialogue will not be exclusively focused on law enforcement–related issues, nor will it involve the exclusive participation of academics or universities' representatives.

The dialogue will focus on four key strategic issues that bring Australia and Colombia together, namely, trade, with a specific focus on mining; connectivity, also with a special emphasis on tourism, transportation, and people-to-people initiatives; education, with an emphasis on research and international student exchanges and security, with a special focus on transnational organised crime, border security and law-enforcement diplomacy. Sessions will be held in the context of the current FTA negotiations between both the countries of the Pacific Alliance (Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru); the changing international order; the rising influence of China both in the Indo-Pacific and Latin America, and the 2017 Australian Foreign Policy White Paper.
