The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade today released a new publication which highlights the trade flows and trends of individual Australian states and territories.
Australian Trade by State and Territory 2002-03 aims to assist individual businesses and state and territory governments make informed trade and investment decisions.
The new publication provides a comprehensive analysis of each State and Territory's trade in goods by commodity, level of processing and by partner country. Services trade for each State and Territory is also analysed in the publication.
Australia is a diverse nation producing a variety of goods and services for export worth $148 billion in 2002-03.
New South Wales exporters returned $34.8 billion in revenue to the Australian economy in 2002-03 through commodities such as coal, aluminium, wool, beef and refined petroleum.
Victoria, with exports worth $26 billion in 2002-03, earned more than a third of its export revenue through trade in manufactured goods such as motor vehicles.
Primary industries are the major export earners in Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
Major Tasmanian exports include zinc, aluminium, marine craft and lobsters, while services exports dominate in the Australian Capital Territory.
