Summary of publication
In 2017-18, Australian Aid to Fiji in 2017-18 was $61.7 million. This included $40.2 million in bilateral flows, $10.2 million of which was provided to support Fiji's recovery from Tropical Cyclone Winston, and $19 million in regional and global programs managed by DFAT. Other government departments managed programs worth $2.5 million.
Australia is Fiji's largest aid partner, but aid is a relatively small proportion of Fiji's economy, accounting for only 2.5 per cent of Gross National Income. Australia focuses its Aid Program on the sectors where it has the most impact. We are the leading donor to Fiji's health, education and civil society sectors. Australia is also a significant donor in the areas of private sector development, governance and gender equality. While we have continued to be focused on supporting Fiji to achieve its long-term development objectives as an upper middle-income country, we have also been flexible, responding effectively to new and emerging priorities in close coordination with the Government of Fiji.
The Aid Program Performance Report (APPR) provides an assessment of progress in 2017-18 towards meeting the three strategic objectives of Australia's Aid Program in Fiji: Increased Private Sector Development, Improved Human Development and Tropical Cyclone Winston Recovery.
