Summary of publication

This report summarises the progress and performance of Australia's aid program to Laos over the period July 2014 to June 2015. This is the final year of the Australia-Laos Development Cooperation Strategy 2009 – 2015.

Australia's official development assistance to Laos in 2014–15 was $58.7 million, with the Laos country program comprising $37.6 million. Monitoring against the Performance Assessment Framework for the Laos program in 2014–15 demonstrated that three out of the program's current four strategic objectives are on track to be fully achieved . On the fourth, the report finds that, despite implementation delays with a significant rural development investment, Australian aid continues to improve the lives of poor and disadvantaged people.

Investments in education and rural development have delivered large-scale development results that have included enhancing access to water and sanitation, road infrastructure, financial services and livelihoods opportunities. Our trade reform engagement has provided a number of Lao businesses with matching grants to build their skills and experience to become more competitive internationally and identified and published in the one place Laos' Non-Tariff Measures to make it easier for businesses to trade.
