Independent Review of Two AusAID Funded UNICEF Projects on Child Survival and Nutrition and Maternal Health in Nepal

Summary of publication

This document is an independent review of two AusAID-funded UNICEF projects on child survival and nutrition and maternal health in Nepal conducted by Jenny Middleton, Madhu Dixit Devkota and Pete Thompson.

The review presents its findings on relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, monitoring and evaluation, sustainability, gender equity and social inclusion, as well as making comments on AusAID's strategy, UNICEF's technical assistance, systems strengthening and AusAID's value-add and comparative advantage. The findings acknowledge that direct attributions of individual achievements, assessment of lost opportunities, or value-added can be difficult to isolate from the larger sector-wide program, however UNICEF's significant contribution to policy, planning and implementation at the sector level in Nepal has been documented, and this is presented in Annex 5.
