Summary of publication
The Australian aid program's support to the Papua New Guinea health sector works closely with a number of multilateral development organisations, and contributes funds to some of their activities. The bilateral health aid program provided a total of $111.9 million in grants to six of these multilateral partners over the period 2011-2016 in order to increase and extend their support to the health sector of PNG. The six agencies are the Asian Development Bank (ADB); Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM); United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA); UNICEF, World Bank and World Health Organization (WHO).
In 2017 DFAT commissioned an independent assessment of its support to these six agencies. The evaluation examined each agencies' use of DFAT funds, and made a number of recommendations in relation to any future funding. DFAT has fully or partly accepted all recommendations, and the Management Response summarises the Department's views and the actions taken and planned.
