Sustaining and Scaling Pro-Poor Urban Water and Sanitation Services in Maputo, Mozambique: Independent evaluation report and management response

Summary of publication

This evaluation of WSUP's water and sanitation program in peri-urban areas of Maputo and Matola took place after less than 18 months of the program and was intended to inform the Australian Government's decision regarding continuing funding for the second phase of the program which was initially conceived as a five year program that was divided into two funding phases.

The evaluation found that WSUP was implementing a very innovative program and was successfully working with a wide range of local stakeholders. The program's approach to gender mainstreaming through all its activities was particularly highlighted as a strength. However, due to budget constraints, the Australian Government will no longer be able to proceed to fund the second phase of the program.
