This document, 'Disability Inclusiveness in Disaster and Risk Reduction Management in Fiji', details a proposal from the Pacific Disability Forum for a partnership with National Disaster Management Office, Fiji Disabled People Association and Fiji Red Cross to include people with disabilities in humanitarian and emergency planning and response.
The proposed project would involve:
- Phase 1–assess before and after disaster needs of people with disabilities through the ten branches of Fiji Disabled People Association
- Phase 2–update disaster preparedness, response and communication procedures to incorporate the needs of people with disabilities (as determined in phase 1)
- Phase 3–implement the new national disability-inclusive action plan and procurement of pre-positioned supplies for people with disabilities
- Phase 4–Feedback and evaluation from Fiji Disabled People Association representatives on their phases 1-3 experience.
