Mounir is currently based in Dubai, where he is the deputy Consul General to the United Arab Emirates. He is also responsible for markets across the Middle East Africa region and manages the infrastructure, healthcare and resources and energy initiatives, assisting Australian companies doing business in the region.
Prior to that Mounir was the Consul and Trade Commissioner, United Arab Emirates, Counsellor and Trade Commissioner, Iran and was responsible for the delivery of Australia’s business program around Expo 2020 Dubai.
Mounir has several years of experience in private and Government sectors in MENA, and has had oversight of sectors including defence industry, and resources & energy. Prior to joining Austrade, Mounir was the head of international business for an infrastructure consultancy, worked in international private law and as a client manager for the Queensland Government in the Middle East. He is passionate about achieving outcomes for Australian companies in MENA and advancing trade & investment between Australia and the region.
Mounir holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) from Macquarie University and Bachelor of Economics and International Business (international trade and finance major) from the University of Queensland. He speaks French, Arabic, Spanish and is proficient in Farsi.
