Advice on the Australian Bureau of Statistics Population and Housing Census 2021

PRB No 21/63

17/21758

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade presents its compliments to all diplomatic missions, consular posts and international organisations and has the honour to refer to the Census of Population and Housing to be undertaken in Australia on 10 August 2021.

The Department wishes to advise that members of diplomatic missions and consular posts, and their family members, are not required to complete the Census form if they are in Australia on a diplomatic visa.

All other people in Australia on Census night are required to participat-e in the Census, including people working temporarily in Australia, such as private domestic workers, and government officials visiting from overseas on a non-diplomatic visa. This helps to give the most accurate and complete picture of Australia, creating vital information that Government, business, and community decision makers use to plan and allocate services, facilities and funding.

For information, the Department notes that Census Field Officers will be contacting households in Australia between 22 July and 26 September. If the Census Field Officers meet any diplomatic staff or their families, they have been instructed to thank the householder and move on to the next household.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade avails itself of this opportunity to renew to all diplomatic missions, consular posts and international organisations the assurances of its highest consideration.
